SMPTE Survey of Vertical Ancillary Space Usage

This survey is to find out where users such as TV stations, networks, and other users of the vertical ancillary data space (VANC) are placing VANC data packets (e.g., AFD/Bar Data, closed captions data, compressed audio metadata, film transfer data, etc.) in SDI and HD-SDI video signals. It also seeks to find out from manufacturers the default factory settings for equipment inserting such VANC data packets.

This information will be used for a SMPTE report on the use of VANC data, expected to be published as information for the industry. This is an important initiative to harmonize the use of VANC data, for which problems may occur with different types of equipment, particularly in systems involving storage and recording.

It is kindly requested that your company or organization shares with SMPTE answers to questions by clicking on the pages below relating to Users or Equipment Manufacturers.

Please complete this survey by January 10, 2010.
