Technical Seminar Call for Papers


The SMPTE Toronto section is proud to announce

this call for papers for our upcoming technical seminar:

 

BOOT CAMP III: Advanced Technologies—Beyond HD

 

We are currently soliciting highly technical papers from companies and individuals. The audience will be drawn from engineering, operations and management of the Canadian broadcast, film, and new media community. Our last event drew 250 attendees and we are planning for many more this year.

 

Requirements:

 

· Papers must be of a highly technical nature.

· They must follow SMPTE presentation guidelines especially regarding commercial content.

· The seminar will be delivered over two days, Wednesday May 14th and Thursday May 15th 2008.  Please ensure that the author or someone with equivalent technical knowledge is available to present the paper in Toronto on either of these dates.

·Presentations time slots will generally be 40 - 45 minutes in length plus 10 minutes for questions. (Longer or shorter periods are possible, submit your preference with your expression of interest)

 

Some categories we have identified as “interesting” for presentations may include:

 

DI, 2K, 4K, Stereoscopic, 3D HD, AVC-Intra, JPEG-2000, Advanced cameras, DCI, IPTV, OLED, Displays, xvYCC, Lip-sync, Audio Levels, Metadata management, NLE Codecs, Network topologies, Network technologies, Advanced optics, Wireless, Mobile.

Note, these are non-exclusive suggestions for topics, any thematic proposals are welcome.

 

Also Keynotes for each day are being sought.

 

One or more panel discussions are under consideration.  For example: From the trenches”, practical stories of challenges overcome with new technologies or workflows”.

How to respond:

 

Interested parties should submit a short synopsis (less than 50 words) of your paper/proposal via e-mail to papers@smptetoronto.org immediately. 

 

Expressions of interest and synopsis must be received no later than NOON Monday March 3rd 2008 for consideration.

 

We cannot guarantee any particular paper will be chosen, we will give preference on a first come first served basis.  Please respond promptly for best opportunity.
