Cloud Media Club

Next Meeting

Thursday July 22nd, 12 Noon ET (US)

Moving at the Speed of Video (Part 1)

Creating interoperability in the cloud for linear video workflows

On July 22nd at 12 Noon (ET) we’ll be having the first of a two-part roundtable discussion on creating interoperable media workflows in the cloud. This part will focus on linear workflows from live production through playout and live OTT delivery. The second part at a later date will focus on software interoperability.

What is interoperability? What is a Standard? With the speed of cloud technology development and adoption coupled with the need to bring solutions and services quickly to market, are Standards and similar conformity requirements still relevant? How important is interoperability, and if Standards are not the path to interoperability, what is?

Join your fellow SMPTE Cloud Media Club members and several invited industry leaders for a lively discussion. There will not be a presentation or a panel discussion - this is an "open mic" event, and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Past Events

If you missed past SMPTE Cloud Media Club events, here's what you missed:
  • A great primer on the cloud from our friends at Deloitte: Ed Coveduck, Jason Williamson and John Footen
  • Jamie Duemo from AWS debating the merits of having a multi-cloud strategy with Peter Wharton (Jamie won by a TKO, regardless of which side she was debating for.)
  • David Klee from A+E Networks and Abraham Yoslov from Discovery told us how thanks to the cloud and automated workflows they collaborated on content and launched a new OTT service in only hours.
  • And more to come!

Please note:

  • You don't need to be a SMPTE Member to attend, but you can't participate unless you attend the event live. No recordings will be made available.
  • If you want to be on our email list, simply register for an upcoming event, even if you can't attend.
  • If you don't want to be on our email list, please send a note to peter@smptedc.org and we'll remove you.
  • Please also send any feedback, comments and ideas to peter@smptedc.org

We look forward to hanging with you at our next SMPTE Cloud Media Club meetup!

About the SMPTE Cloud Media Club

Privacy

The Cloud Media Club is like the social hour after a technical conference where we encourage participants to freely engage in discussion. Therefore the conversations that occur in the cloud media club meetings shall be considered private and respected as such. Recordings will not be published. Our email list will not be shared.

Recordings

We will record the SMPTE Cloud Media Club events for historical archive and limited marketing purposes only as described below. We respect your privacy and no event recordings will be published or made available to others. If we use a clip from an event to promote future club activities, we will obtain written (email) permission from anyone speaking in that clip. We may use a mosaic ("Brady Bunch") images of participants in our promotion without seeking additional permission except for any participants speaking in that clip.

We hope our club instigates innovation and ideation, and from this new technologies, products, companies, and new ways of utilizing the cloud may emerge. Our archived recordings are only to provide a historical record of the club activities for future generations so that they may look back and see the seeds of such innovation when first planted and sprouting.
