Help and FAQs

What's coming with the new SMPTE website?

SMPTE is launching a new website, membership database and business system. This new system will enable SMPTE to enable better communications to its members as well as offer improved services. Access to critical information will be easier and updates to content will be more frequent. The new system will also enable the Society to provide better and more targeted outreach. Look for a second phase of updates in October when the SMPTE Digital Library (SDL) will come online. The SDL will provide desktop access with integrated full-text search of the Society’s intellectual property including journal articles, standards and conference papers. Stay Tuned!

It appears that more content is available to me. Is that true?

The new website design enables us to push more relevant content closer to where the user is likely to need it. This way, site users will find it easier to navigate and locate content. We also improved navigation to enable non-members to find information and encourage them to join to gain access to member-only content.

What are my member benefits for accessing content on the new site?

SMPTE members benefit from access to journal articles and live and archival webinar content. Members at subscribing institutions will also have access to standards. In the future all of this content as well as papers presented at SMPTE conferences will be available to members at no charge or at discounted rates.

I forgot my login credentials (username and password), or I want to change my password. What should I do?

  1. Click here
  2. Enter your primary email address from your current SMPTE account

As a Section Leader or Manager, I want to access my Section’s site to provide content on upcoming events. What do I do?

When the transition is complete you will receive documentation and web-based training to manage your Section pages on Drupal. This will happen after the migration, date to be determined. In the meantime, we are here to help you with anything that you need. Contact Roberta Gorman and she will make sure that your questions are answered.

If your pages are not currently hosted by SMPTE, nothing will change at this time. We will continue to link to your site as we do now, your members will see no change, and your webmaster can continue to maintain your site throughout the transition.  Later this year we will ask you to migrate to a SMPTE-hosted platform and offer training to you on creation and maintenance of your site.

I am a Section Leader, and I need to send an email about a Section meeting? How do I do that?

Your existing mailing lists will be available to you through August 2. Instructions and documentation for mailing lists on the new system will be made available shortly, and staff will be here to help with any transition issues. Contact Roberta at rgorman@smpte.org, and she will make sure that your questions are answered until then.
