Microsoft Power Automation

The SMPTE Knowledge Network is using Microsoft Power Automate at its core to facilitate automation in SMPTE’s standards development process.

Microsoft Power Automate, also known as Microsoft Flow, is a workflow automation tool which is part of Microsoft 365. It allows for automated interaction between different applications and for automatic data processing.

The SMPTE Knowledge Network is using Microsoft Power Automate at its core to facilitate automation in SMPTE’s standards development process. It is mostly hidden from a SMPTE user and serves as a backend tool to tie the various SMPTE applications together and to automatically enforce certain dues process rules, or to enable functionality which would not be available by default.

Examples:

  • Enforce that every member of a TC subgroup is also a member of the TC itself
  • Remove a member from TC subgroups if the member leaves the associated TC
  • Notify members when a new ballot is available
  • Notify members when a new file is available
