SMPTE and ETC’s Digital Cinema Summit at NAB 2009 Preparing to Be a Great Success

On April 18-19, the Digital Cinema Summit, produced by SMPTE and the Entertainment Technology Center at USC, will focus on the theme “3D: Lens to Living Room.”  Leading producers, cinematographers and technologists will review the entire 3D path from acquisition, through post production, distribution and display.

On Saturday, April 18, Patrick Lussier (Director and Editor) will join us to pull back the curtain on the making of the 3-D version of the film, “My Bloody Valentine” (the record setting, widest theatrical 3-D film release to date) which included several sequences that broke traditional “rules” of 3-D and set a new standard for live action 3-D.

Sunday, April 19, join us to hear Mark Zoradi, who, as president of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group, oversees the worldwide distribution and marketing of all Walt Disney Studios films including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Pictures, and Touchstone Pictures. Zoradi will share about the studio’s 2009 ambitious and entertaining 3-D releases and his vision for the future of 3-D.

Visit SMPTE Booth (L28- South Lobby) at NAB to purchase 3D to the Home Issues Report

The SMPTE Task Force on 3D to the Home was established in August 2007.  Over the last 18 months, almost 200 members from 15 countries have worked in the Task Force and its various drafting groups to prepare a report on all aspects of this emerging technology.  At the final meeting in March, at Turner Broadcasting, the report was approved and is now undergoing final editorial preparation for publication.  The 20,000-word report includes recommendations for the standardization of a “3D Home Master” for use in multiple distribution scenarios.

The report will be available now to SMPTE Standards Community members.  It will soon be available for sale as a download in the SMPTE Store, and hard copies will be available for sale at the SMPTE booth at NAB. Stop by and purchase your own copy! SMPTE BOOTH:  L28 in the South Lobby.
