Annual News Technology Conference: Boot Camp

Bits on the Bay is a two-day annual conference covering the fundamentals and latest advancements in television technology with an emphasis on news coverage and production. It is being held at the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa, which is located on the Chesapeake bay within an hour of both Baltimore and Washington. The 2011 conference will be held on Monday, 6 June and Tuesday, 7 June.

Acquisition to Archives:  an all-day workshop focusing on the workflows in a file-based news environment.

Tuesday, 7 June
Advancements in Television Technologies: an all-day conference covering topics such as: new acquisition technologies, Mobile DTV, 3D,  broadcast centralization and connected TV sets.

SMPTE 2nd Annual International Conference on Stereoscopic 3D for Media and Entertainment

SMPTE Members in the News

Darcy Antonellis, the president of Warner Bros.' technical operations, will be the recipient of the first Women in Technology Leadership Award from TVNewsCheck, a broadcast industry business news source. The award will honor her professional achievements as well as her fundraising activities to support the National Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation's Technology Apprenticeship Program.

David Keighley has been promoted to the newly created role of chief quality officer at IMAX. In this role, Keighley will be responsible for maintaining the company's quality standards as more feature films undergo conversions to its format. He will continue as president of IMAX's post-production image and quality control subsidiary, DKP 70MM Inc., which he co-founded in 1972 with his wife and business partner, Patricia. It was acquired by IMAX in February 1988.

Extract from Scope
This document describes the bitstream syntax and decoding process for the SMPTE Layered Video Extension (LVE). Bit-streams and decoders conforming to one or more of the profiles specified in this specification are completely defined in this specification. The picture decoding and reconstruction process outputs 8 to 16-bit value per video component sample in 4:2:0, 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 sampling grid.

SMPTE RP 2027:2011, AVC Intra-Frame Coding Specification for SSM Card Applications

Extract from Scope
This document specifies basic parameters and stream structure for AVC Intra-frame coding using the High 10 Intra profile and the High 4:2:2 Intra profile in compliance with ISO/IEC 14996-10 | ITU-T Rec. H.264. The intended application is acquisition using SSM (Solid State Media) Card defined in SMPTE RP 2006 and subsequent editing processes.
