DTV Transition Coalition

Many television stations are starting to broadcast their programs using digital technology instead of the traditional analog format. In fact, all full power television broadcasters must cease transmission of analog television signals by Midnight on February 19, 2009. From that moment onward, only digital television signals will be available over the air. This change affects only those television stations picked up “off-air”. Cable and satellite services are not affected.

SMPTE is a member of the DTV Transition Coalition. The coalition's sole purpose is to educate consumers about the February 17, 2009 federally mandated transition to digital broadcasting, with the goal of no consumer losing television reception due to a lack of information about the DTV transition. The coalition does not promote or oppose any public policy issues surrounding the transition.
