2009 SMPTE Technical Conference Program Committee Considers Abstracts
The Program Committee for the 2009 SMPTE Technical Conference & Expo is reviewing and selecting abstracts for 2009 SMPTE Technical Conference program. More than 100 abstracts were submitted prior to deadline. All Authors will be notified as to whether or not their abstract was accepted by July 17.
Jerry Whitaker, 2009 Program Committee Chair, had this to say about the conference, "Technology is reshaping the imaging business, from origination to display. This year's Technical Conference will focus on key aspects of this change. With the recent end of analog broadcasting, video professionals are making a clean break with the past. New technologies and techniques are revolutionizing the way programs are made, while Digital Cinema continues to advance. As the industries impacted by television and video/film production expands, so does the need for detailed information on the latest available technologies. Serving this need is the goal of the 2009 SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition."
The Conference is scheduled to be held in Hollywood California October 27 – 29, 2009. For more information, visit www.smpte365.org.
SMPTE Board of Editors Seeks Technical Papers and Tutorials from the Research Community
We continue to receive positive feedback about recent improvements to SMPTE’s Motion Imaging Journal continues to come in. The current offering of technical papers and other features is very solid and readers comment regularly about the high quality of papers. In an effort to continue to raise the bar, however, the SMPTE Board of Editors has convened an ad hoc committee to explore ways to attract technical papers and tutorials from the motion imaging research community to complement current content. The ad hoc committee members, Harvey Arnold (Sinclair Broadcast Group), Steve Stough (New Venture Strategies), Tom Holman (University of Southern California), and V. Michael Bove Jr. (MIT Media Laboratory), will collaborate with SMPTE's Editorial Vice President Paul Hearty (Ryerson University) and Glen Pensinger, Chair of SMPTE's Board of Editors in developing a plan of action to identify and solicit papers from a variety of relevant institutions.
When news breaks, workflow efficiency can mean the difference between getting to air first - or not getting there at all. Building your newsroom around a shared storage architecture with integrated editors helps deliver the quickest time from content acquisition to air. Larger newsrooms can reap additional rewards by implementing a low-resolution workflow that allows scores of users to work on content simultaneously.
Please join us as guest speaker Bob Bolson, from Harris, talks about today's tools for optimizing your news production, from ingest through NRCS integration of your editors to play-out. The session is scheduled for 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific/6:00 PM UK on Thursday July 9. To register please visit SMPTE PDA Now under the Education tab at www.smpte365.org.
