San Francisco Section Has Successful kick-off Meeting
The newly revitalized San Francisco Section held its first meeting for 2011 on 24 February at HDI in Los Gatos. The subject was Laser & LCoS Technology in Image Displays. Fifty attendees heard CEO Ingemar Jansson, and Chief Scientist Edmund Sandberg talk about their novel display technology using their own proprietary LCoS devices with laser illumination that can be used in both front and rear projection applications. Thanks to meeting organizer John Hartwell, SMPTE San Francisco Section Manager for a great program.
If you are in the area, be sure to attend our 17 March meeting at Aspera HQ in Emeryville, CA. The topic will be Petabytes in Motion: Ultra High-Speed Transport of Media Files over Global Networks. Michelle Munson, President and CEO of Aspera, along with her R & D team, will explain their findings in testing ultra-high-speed file transfers with enterprise storage and cloud computing providers, and particular technology solutions that Aspera and its partners have developed to overcome the bottlenecks and resource sharing problems that occur in the network transport, the file systems and storage, and in virtual machines themselves, for the movement of large media files and large sets of files.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please join us for a lively evening of discussion at the Aspera offices in Emeryville. For more details, please visit the San Francisco Section website.
