November 2008

Thank you all…The 2008 SMPTE Annual Tech Conference & Expo was a Huge Success!
This year’s conference attendance was up more than 50%. Program highlights: Dr. Karlheinz Brandenburg, widely known as the "father of the MP3" as keynote speaker; keynote panelists such as the Executive producers of "Lost", "Heroes" and "CSI"; over 50 top of the line exhibitors; a dozen cutting-edge technical sessions; the first movie theatre launch of Immersive Sound; and a red carpet Honors and Awards Ceremony hosted by TV personality and producer Robb Weller. We’d like to thank the many SMPTE member volunteers who assisted. Here’s a big round of applause to all who helped.

Electronic Services
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS!

We have just completed a major update of the member database.

PLEASE LOGIN TO THE MEMBERS AREA OF WWW.SMPTE.ORG AND CLICK "MY ACCOUNT" ON THE MENU AT LEFT. CHECK THAT WE HAVE ALL YOU INFORMATION ENTERED CORRECTLY, AND EDIT IF NECESSARY.

Please note that there are now three postal addresses in your member record.

  • "Company Address" will be the address visible to other members in the Member Directory if you choose to share this information. SMPTE will not use this address for mailing purposes.
  • "Mailing Address" will be the address where all postal communication from SMPTE is sent. You can set this to be "same as Company Address" or enter different information. For example, if you want your office address to be visible to other members, but want your Journal and postal renewal invoices mailed to your home, enter your office address under "Company Address" and your home address under "Mailing Address."
  • "Billing Address" will be the address where your postal renewal invoices are mailed. You can choose to use either your "Company" or "Mailing" address, or enter different information.

Also, if you live outside North America, please check that your address is formatted in an acceptable way. Note that all US States, Canadian Provinces, and Countries have been normalized to international standards.

If you have any problems, or need help in making changes please contact Sally-Ann D'Amato at SMPTE Headquarters (see "About SMPTE/Contact Us")

Finally, please check your email address. And, if you have more than one email, it is a good idea to enter a secondary address. Then, if your primary address ever becomes unreachable, we have a way to contact you. Also, for those participating in Engineering Groups, the secondary address is very useful. All SMPTE email will be sent to your primary address, but the mailing lists will accept postings from either email.
