Keynote Announced

The Society of Motion Picture and Television
Engineers (SMPTE) is pleased to announce that Bran Ferren,
Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Applied Minds, will deliver
the keynote address at the SMPTE Technical Conference & Exhibition
on Wednesday, October 24 during the conference's opening general
session.

Pre-conference Sympsium Sessions

Plan to arrive a day early to attend the
Pre-conference Symposium on Stereoscopic Production. This intense,
one-day program will provide the broadcast, production, or cinema
engineer with a roadmap for exploring the stereoscopic production
landscape, from acquisition to the latest projection systems. Leading
industry experts will explain the core technologies, applications and
challenges of managing a 3D production pipeline.

SMPTE and VSF 2008 Joint Conference Call for
Papers

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and
the Video Services Forum (VSF) are seeking presentation proposals for
the SMPTE and VSF 2008 Joint Conference, scheduled for Feb. 10-13, 2008,
in Houston.

The SMPTE/VSF Joint Conference will highlight the accelerating
interdependency of technologies used in motion imaging and video
transport services. Proposals should support the conference goals of
providing attendees with the latest information on the technology
advances in Motion Imaging and Video Transport Services, with a core
theme of Distributing Digital Content in a Networked World. The
conference is a unique gathering of end users, service providers,
equipment manufacturers, and others involved with the highly dynamic
world of television and video. [More Info]

Volunteers Wanted for the SMPTE Technical Conference &
Exhibition

The 149th SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition will be held at
the Brooklyn Marriot for five days beginning Tuesday, October 23rd
through the Saturday October 27th. If you can donate about 20 hours of
your time over the course of the conference as an assistant to our
conference committee, you will receive a free badge for each day of
scheduled service, thus saving you the full registration fee.
 Minimum shifts are 4 ½ hours long. The badge will admit you to the
technical sessions and exhibits on the same days you volunteer,
depending on your assigned volunteer schedule. If you would like to
volunteer and become more active in New York Section and SMPTE national
affairs, please contact Ed Schuller at seaviews@att.net.

professional affiliation. There are a limited number of positions
available, and this offer is for current SMPTE members. Non members,

SMPTE and CST Announce Memorandum of
Understanding

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and
the Commission Supérieure Technique de l'image et du Son (CST) announced
a Memorandum of Understanding detailing increased cooperation between
the two organizations. The MOU provides for high level exchange of
information between the organizations, fosters increased cooperation in
the development of standards of mutual interest and provides for regular
meetings of organization leaders, as well as joint projects where

EBU and SMPTE Announce Joint Task Force on Time
and Synchronization

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Society of Motion
Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) are forming a new Joint Task
Force to examine and standardize future needs for timing and
synchronization in moving picture and related industries. [More Info]
