Final Report for the SMPTE Task Force on Timing and Synchronization Available Now
At the end of 2007, SMPTE and the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) launched a Joint Task Force on Timing and Synchronization. The Task Force, joined by over 100 professionals from the Television, Film, and Information Technology industries, and from Academia, studied requirements for synchronization systems and time labeling systems for the future. The intention was to suggest technologies that might eventually replace color black synchronization, and the ubiquitous SMPTE Time Code.
After nearly two years of intensive work, we are delighted to announce the publication of the Final Report of the Task Force. The Report (127pp) is in the form of a "Request for Standardization" that will be a reference document for the SMPTE standards committees that will work on selection and definition of the new systems. The Report is now available for download from the SMPTE Store at http://store.smpte.org/category-s/23.htm for $25.00!

SMPTE PDA Now: Stereoscopic displays in the home
Guest Speaker: Chris Chinnock, Insight Media
Most of us are now aware of or have experienced stereoscopic 3D in the movie theaters. There is, however, a tremendous amount of activity underway to bring the experience and glasses-free, auto stereoscopic technology to the home. For notebooks, monitors, TVs and home theater projectors, several 3D technologies are starting to enter the home. For small screens, 3D technology is starting to be commercialized for use in cellphones/smartphones, camera systems and picture frames. Creating the 3D ecosystem requires content, a delivery mechanism and a display system.
Please join our guest speaker Chris Chinnock, President of Insight Media, as he explores the various stereoscopic platforms available for the home, describes basic in-home display approaches, and then updates us on the status of current products and the expectations for future products.
The webcast is scheduled for Thursday September 24, 2009 beginning at 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific/17:00 UTC/GMT
