In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing entertainment technology market, we’re thrilled to offer eight independent-study virtual courses for the start of 2022! SMPTE virtual courses are an incredible way to build new skills. You’ll join other professionals from across the world and learn from award-winning instructors who are leaders in their respective fields. Building your skillset will position you to explore new roles and responsibilities within your organization or beyond.
While the entry of new technologies into our industry can enable fresh, exciting forms of storytelling, they also bring new complexities to professional media workflows. To address resulting workflow challenges at an accelerated pace aligned with the rapid rate of technological change, SMPTE this past year developed a new initiative — the Rapid Industry Solutions, or SMPTE RIS.
SMPTE along with supporting partners 80Six, ETC, and head Sponsor Mo-Sys, are proud to host an exclusive and unique On-Set Virtual Production event! You’ll be able to experience (up close and personal) the latest in production technology, even from the comfort of your own home. This interactive 3-day hybrid event will provide attendees the opportunity to visit a working Virtual Set in West London, built especially for SMPTE and its members.

Revision for IMF Application #2E to include support for High-Throughput JPEG 2000 and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) imagery.
The industry standard IMF Application #2E is under revision to add support for High-Throughput JPEG 2000 (HTJ2K) and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) imagery. HTJ2K is a new variant of J2K that offers up to 10 times higher throughput and lower latency while maintaining much of the flexibility of J2K. HLG is a non-linear transfer function designed to simplify the use of High-Dynamic Range (HDR) images over existing infrastructure.
Professional workflows have evolved from time consuming manual processes and storage-hogging monolithic program masters to component-based masters that allow for flexible and efficient versioning. IMF Application #2E is a file-based media format that is designed for such component-based workflows. This format offers a “one-to-many” distribution workstream - meant for studio applications where a TV or movie title is transformed into multiple content versions that are made available to multiple distribution channels across multiple territories. As such, App #2E also includes the support for a wide range of colorimetry systems, HDR, up to 4k resolutions, and Immersive Audio. View on Github
