Third Annual SMPTE NY Editing Showcase June 6, 2006
SMPTE's New York Section will once again produce its well-attended Editing Showcase on June 6th in New York City. This year, the Showcase moves to a new venue, the capacious Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), which is also a co-sponsor of the Showcase, and located in the heart of trendy Tribeca. The event is free, but registration is required at www.smpteny.org.
The day features editing system manufacturers and well-known industry not-for-profit association exhibits in BMCC's Richard Harris Terrace, which is easily located near the main entrance of the school and has an unobstructed view of the Hudson River. The college is located at Chambers Street and the West Side Highway, just north of the World Financial Center. There's plenty of transportation at the door, and parking nearby.
Exhibiting manufacturers include Apple, Avid, Adobe, Boris, Grass Valley Group/Thomson, Harris/Leitch, Media 100, Panasonic, Quantel, Sony, B & H, Digidesign, NHT Pro, Guitar Center, Discreet, FNNY, Focusrite, Future Enhancements, Leader Instruments, MPE, Pinnacle Systems, NNY, Tekserve, and Universal Audio.
Doors open to the public at 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. There's also a "Meet and Greet" in the exhibit area at 5:00 p.m., giving attendees the opportunity to network with other attendees and exhibitors. At 6:30 p.m., following the Meet and Greet, those interested are invited to the BMCC's 4th floor, 150-seat, amphitheater for HD-quality presentations, and discussions featuring several of the industry's leading editors and experts; a live web-cast of the presentations is also being planned. The Exhibit Hall is open until 8:00 p.m. for those who may not be able to get out of their offices during the day.
If the past two years are any indication, over 800 attendees will converge from the broadcasting, cable, production/post, and institutional facilities; not to mention the Tri-State's local freelance community. The next generation of professionals, namely students in film and TV like those at BMCC, are also invited.
