The North American standard for TV Broadcast, Internet streaming, and Social Media delivery of live video has used the CEA-608 protocol as a foundation with many limitations.  This presentation discusses the various international standards of captioning/subtitling, the pitfalls there are when converting TV to internet captioning, and what other non-standard options have evolved as the demand for live streaming video becomes a household discussion around the globe. We will illustrate the biggest challenges of adding captioning and subtitling to live videos and explore solutions that are gaining popularity in typical video delivery workflows.

About the Speaker:  Giovanni Galvez is the VP of Business Development and Strategy for SyncWords.  Based in New York, Galvez has over 20 years of experience in the closed captioning and subtitling field, broadcast TV, and Live Events. He and his team were recognized for standardizing and pioneering development of non-live broadband captioning, introducing file-based caption encoding workflows for MPEG-2, MXF, and non-linear editing systems to major networks and the broadcast industry in general. He is currently working on AI powered technology to automate timing and translation of live virtual conferences. Prior to SyncWords, Galvez spent almost six years as a Product Manager for Captioning and Subtitling products at Telestream as well as founded and organized the Community Sound System Festival DMT project that provided free access to sound systems to Washington DC event and community organizers.
