MEETING DATE(S): January 19, 2002
ATTENDANCE: 03 SMPTE members + SIGGRAPH & SID members
LOCATION: Entertainment Technology Center Digital Cinema

This half-day symposium examined the complex issue of managing color when a motion picture is displayed in digital cinema format. How will color be handled to ensure that the images approved by creative people are displayed faithfully on the screen? Technical presentations were followed by a panel discussion on visual effects for digital cinema and the post-production process changes needed for effective delivery of digital color. The program was designed for those working in creative, production, and technical fields, including animators, visual effects artists and supervisors, directors, cinematographers, production designers, colorists, post-production supervisors, facility managers, engineers, and executives.

This seminar, presented jointly by L.A. ACM SIGGRAPH SIG-Tech, SMPTE Hollywood section, and Southern California SID, represents the coming together of the three leading organizations devoted to image creation and display. Leadership of all three plans future joint activities.

Following the seminar, an optional backstage tour of the new Kodak Theater (new home of the Academy Awards) was made available.
