SMPTE Hollywood Section has invited experts to present their perspectives on data storage. Tom Coughlin will explore the requirements and growth trends for all aspects of digital storage for professional media and entertainment. For many professional media and entertainment applications latency and performance play important roles. The performance and latency of storage systems depends upon both the storage devices being used as well as the direct attached or network interfaces connecting these devices and the user. He will explore the latest developments in storage devices and digital communication interfaces and show where and how they can be used to create the entertainment workflow of the future. A panel discussion with noted storage and interface industry experts will look at the future and role of Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, Mini-SAS, PCIe, SATA and SAS Express, fiber channel and IP connectivity, File Systems, and storage interfaces, as well as solid state drive and hard disk driver development.
