SMPTE Hollywood Section Meeting
Data Drives Production Decisions
Data - and lots of it- is influencing decision-making in TV and film production in
a very big way.
Decisions on how projects are green-lit, created, produced, distributed and marketed are effected by the data that’s being collected during production, on social media, streaming services, mobile devices, email and web based communications. How we consume content is evolving and opening the door to data rich models that claim to predict what we will watch, and how we will watch it, in the future.
Everything in a digital environment is track-able. What we ultimately do with that information is yet another decision. We invite you to join our panelists for a discussion, led by Bernie Laramie, on how big data and analytics are affecting you.
Bernie Laramie has been a Producer in Los Angeles for more than 25 years. He is best known for his work on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” as well as such series as “Shark”, “Threat Matrix”, “Profiler”, “Dark Skies” and “Max Headroom”, as well as on the IMAX 3D production of James Cameron’s “Aliens of the Deep”, and “The Last Mysteries of the Titanic”, a 17 camera live broadcast from the sunken vessel. Bernie taught Post Production for Film and Television at UCLA Extension for more than 15 years, and has been a guest lecturer at USC, Cal Arts, and Art Center. He has authored a textbook for Allyn & Bacon on “Creative Post Production”. He is a member of The Producer’s Guild, The Director’s Guild, and The Editor’s Guild.
