Meeting Report - Dec 4, 2005

Linwood Dunn Theater

About 40 members and their families attended our annual holiday screening.  This year's film was NATIONAL VELVET, released by MGM in 1945.

After the excitement of seeing Elizabeth Taylor (at 12 years of age) win the British Grand National horse race, everybody went out to the parking lot of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Pickford Center, where the Los Angeles Fire Department picked up boxes of toys donated by SMPTE members.  Just about the time they finished, they received an alarm, and left with sirens blaring.  We collected about 160 toys.

Elizabeth Taylor was trained to ride the horse by the uncle of Sieg Heep, one of our Hollywood Section Managers.
