4K cameras explode on the scene as film manufacturers fold their tents. File-based capture and editing balloon as solid-state recording takes over. A free download of Da Vinci Resolve plies the Internet as established audio and post houses stumble. Is there an end in sight? What do we make of tumbling equipment costs, shrinking margins, downward rates, fewer tickets sold at the box office, "cord-cutting" of paid cable by Internet-raised Millennials? Is the bloom permanently off the 3D rose? Will ATSC Mobile DTV get off the ground? Where is today's on-demand, 24/7, social-media landscape taking our industry?
In other words, it's time again for the SMPTE NY Section's Annual State of the Industry Summit, a forward-looking discussion moderated by David Leitner, who's only too happy to forget when TVs were big vacuum tubes and image processing meant smelly chemicals.
Bring your questions, and your optimism too.
