“A Spot Light on Filmmaking ”

We are excited to have independent filmmaker, Michael Thygesen, share his experiences, perspectives and even his movies at this month’s SMPTE meeting. Michael will be showing two of his recent short films that have been circulating through the festival circuits, Murrieta and Last Beat. He will discuss the issues the productions ran into and how he and his crew overcame and learned from them. Also being discussed, will be the work that Michael does with Futures Explred where he teaches adults with developmental disabilities how to work in the film industry in the hopes that they can work and live more independently.

We are also excited to conduct this meeting at the historic Colfax Theater. The new owners of the theater are hoping to create and promote a venue that can be used for a variety of community activities. They are allowing us to use their theater one week before their grand opening.

About the speaker:  Michael received his BA in Digital Film/Video Production from California State University, Sacramento. During his time there, he won multiple awards including "First Place Award" in the CSUS Short Film Competition for his film Unity. Michael has had multiple films shown at film festivals locally, in the Central Valley, Los Angeles as well as overseas. He has won many awards at these festivals including "Best Cinematography", "Audience Choice", "Best Director" and more. His main role is usually Director of Photography, Director, Producer, Writer, Editor and almost everything in between.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Non-members and guests are always welcome to attend. For questions about this meeting, please contact any Section officer.

We look forward to seeing you!
