“Everything You Wanted To Know About: Interoperable Master Format”
The Interoperable Master Format, or IMF, while originally a project of the major movie studios, is now gaining a good deal of traction in the broader world of television. This talk is meant to give a practical introduction to IMF and how it is intended to be used. We will start with a broad overview of the format, looking at how it is intended to make the job of content owners easier when they have to manage multiple different versions of that content. We will describe how using IMF can streamline workflows and reduce storage costs. Finally we will give a description of the various elements that comprise an Interoperable Master Format Package (CPL, OPL, J2K, etc.), clearly explaining the intended function of each one, and where each is defined within the SMPTE 2067 standards suite.
