Thursday 3 OCTOBER
The international Broadcasting Convention held every September tends to set the agenda for the next years in the work of Television Radio and the Web  – and the other industries of the moving image.

SMPTE UK is providing meetings outside London triggered by some of the thoughts of IBC
- by taking  eminent  members of our community and getting them to give some impressions and their thoughts on what they saw, heard and discussed at IBC.

We have Rich Welsh – SMPTE international governor with experience of working at Dolby and Technicolor, now an  associate Lecturer at Solent University who reflects on what more pixels, faster pixels ,better pixels mean  from his viewpoint of the Film industry.

Chris Johns Chief Engineer Broadcast Strategy at  BSkyB will provide a view from the Television industries - and as co-Chair of the Digital Television Group UHTV Forum.....

Please register promptly – all welcome

Rich will just start the discussion - and we welcome SMPTE members and others to contribute what they think are the current issues which face the industry –  What is loudness? is there a place of Terrestrial  Television?  Or the myriad of other things which we shown and presented at IBC.

We will also hear briefly about the Rising Stars programme for those new to our industries – and thus how those young people learnt much at IBC-

We encourage younger members of our industries  who were there to tell us what they did , saw and heard - and if they were not there come along and find out what are the trends in our industries.

IBC is the world premier Event for those interested in all activities of broadcasting and the technologies of the moving image – with an equal balance on excellent Conference with a wide range of exhibitors filling all of the Amsterdam Rai Centre.

We welcome Students at this meeting and encourage them to join SMPTE and take part in shaping our industries as they learn and progress their careers – Thanks to the Generosity  of SMPTE members – Students get one year of membership free.

The venue is Lecture Theatre 1 (LT1) which will be sign posted with a SMPTE logo,
The easiest way to get to LT1 is through the main entrance on East Park Terrace where you will find the lobby for LT1 immediately to the left.

Thers are car parks near by - but no parking on the Univesity Campus.
