SMPTE ST 2067 is the formal name for the Interoperable Master Format.
A merger of cinema and TV technologies that have been gestating for a decade, we are now at the stage
where the commercial and technical landscape is right for its large scale roll-out.
Major IMF project are underway in the USA that will affect any company receiving content from the studios.
Sitting and waiting for this to happen risks missing the whole economic argument for IMF’s existence.

The Post & Broadcast segments of our industry can take advantage of the tooling
being put in place for IMF if the basic principles are understood.

This presentation will look briefly (very briefly) at the history of using media on files
and will then consider the business issues involved in distributing content across multiple platforms
both nationally and internationally.
We will then look at how the technology of IMF offers the chance for cross-vendor automation of the processes
to be a reality. There is also a fighting chance of some live IMF content exploration.

Bruce is the SMPTE regional governor for the UK, founder of Mr MXF Ltd, Chief Media Scientist at Dalet,
co-founder of the Media Bay LLC and literally wrote the book on MXF.
He is a recognised world expert in media files and formats and he’s very grateful for all the awards.
He’s also very sorry for all the pain that MXF has caused.
