Introduction to Video over IP / Starting a GMU Student Section
Sashi Thiagarajan, Systems Engineer - Arista Networks
N. Ken Nodland, Account Manager - Arista Networks
Designing an IP-based network to handle the real-time traffic and bursty file transfers of live broadcast and file-based workflows is a challenge. We will introduce the base concepts of IP and networking in the next generation broadcasting world, as well as discuss Broadcast Engineering for traditional IT engineers.
There will also be a short introduction to SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers), an international organization that creates standards for film and television technology, now celebrating its 100th anniversary. GMU is in the process of establishing a SMPTE Student Section to increase the involvement of new people in SMPTE and the industry.
In an effort to better predict turnout we are now using Eventbrite for monthly meetings. If you expect to attend please register. There is no obligation, and unregistered walk-ins are still welcome, but this will help us gauge room size and refreshment orders in advance.
The GMU main campus is in Fairfax, VA. off Braddock Road. See the link below for a campus map. Engineering Bldg 37, and Parking Deck 43 (Shenandoah) are in black at the lower right. The building does not require special access, just head to room 4201 on the fourth floor.
