Cinema EOS: A Hierarchical Approach to Digital Cinematography
Larry Thorpe, Senior Director of Professional Engineering and Solutions, Canon
Canon's Larry Thorpe will provide an overview of Digital SLR cameras for video acquisition and
discuss new developments of interest to SMPTE members and anyone involved with television production
in today's fast-paced environment.
Mr. Thorpe is an acknowledged expert on camera and lens technology. He helped pioneer HDTV
development in the U.S. market and holds ten patents in the field of broadcast technology. Prior to
joining Canon in 2004, Mr. Thorpe held engineering positions with Sony, RCA and the BBC. He has
presented previously for the DC Section and his programs are always thought-provoking and entertaining!
The NAB building is at the junction of N Street, 18th Street and Connecticut Avenue, just south of
Dupont Circle. There is street and garage parking on many blocks in the vicinity - check signs and
meters for hours! The closest Metro stops are Dupont Circle (Red line - two blocks) and Farragut
West (Orange/Blue lines - four blocks).
