I don’t know about you, but I feel that the past year was very much a lost year. Of course, there was plenty to do with navigating the pandemic and keeping our members informed and engaged through our many virtual educational offerings. It seems that we went into the dark, figuratively, and are now emerging into a new world. Before the pandemic, we were creating content using “traditional” methods. Yes, video-over-IP delivery picked up speed on the back of SMPTE ST 2110 and related standards. Yes, pictures were being enhanced by HDR technologies and such. But even with the explosion of streaming services, we could still see the distinction between motion pictures, television, and streaming content. Read more from Barbara Lange.
2021 SMPTE Elections Are Now Open!
The 2021 Elections for Officers and Governors of the Society are now open. All Active category members are eligible to vote (this includes Professional, Executive, Fellow, Life, Retired, and Honorary members) for Board Officer Candidates as well as Governor Candidates within their Region. To allow members to learn more about the candidates and the voting process before casting their votes, we have created a Society Election page on the SMPTE website, where you will find more information on the candidates and about the election process itself. Voting closes at 11:59pm GMT on Monday, 27 September 2021.

DPP and SMPTE publish major updates to IMF documentation
The DPP has collaborated with SMPTE on the publication of a new pair of SMPTE Recommended Disclosure Documents for the Interoperable Master Format (IMF), resulting in adoption by the BBC this summer. The aim of these publications is to provide increased efficiency to broadcasters and online content providers when mastering and exchanging content. Read more
