Will we all be WFH from now on?
Next, Bob Eicholz of Technicolor sits down with IABM CTO, Stan Moote, for a fireside chat. Technicolor deployed 4000 to work from home in just 3 weeks at the beginning of the pandemic. Bob will share whether remote working could ultimately largely replace on-site. What are the downsides to WFH? And what about those vital personal interactions?
Into the cloud at speed
When the COVID lockdown happened, leading eSports production house Next Generation Esports (NGE) moved its entire operation into the cloud at breakneck speed – switching, graphics, encoding, gameplay, replay – the whole nine yards of professional production. Stan Moote talks to Todd Roth of NGE about how this was achieved and what challenges had to be overcome. For those of us not familiar with the complexities and scale of eSports, this is a real eye opener!

Bob Eicholz is the global Chief Technology Officer for Technicolor’s Production Services companies and leads the strategic technology direction for Production Services worldwide, with a focus on the evolution to the cloud. Mr. Eicholz also leads the Technicolor Production Services Patent Board and Worldwide Content Security Group, and is also responsible ensuring Technicolor is complying with the Trusted Partner Network (TPN) Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), CDSA, and other applicable standards.
Barbara Lange joined SMPTE as Executive Director in January 2010. Founded in 1916, SMPTE is the global professional association that supports the technical framework and professional community which makes quality motion imaging available to consumers in a variety of media formats. Ms. Lange’s portfolio includes executing on the SMPTE Board of Governors’ strategic vision and to ensure the Society’s continued relevance in an ever-evolving media ecosystem. Under Ms. Lange’s leadership, membership has grown by more than 30% globally, more than 200 leading-edge industry standards have been published -- including industry game-changers such as Interoperable Master Format (IMF), High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Video Over IP -- and the Society has educated thousands of professionals on critical technical topics. Today, Ms. Lange’s focus is implementing a 3-year strategic business plan that will further SMPTE’s visibility and relevance with an emphasis on attracting a younger and more diverse membership demographic. In 2015, Ms. Lange led the acquisition of the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA), a leading trade association focused on the application of technology in the creation, distribution and consumption of professional media content; she now also serves as HPA Executive Director. Ms. Lange holds a BA in Chemistry and German from Washington and Jefferson College, and completed the Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Prior to joining SMPTE she held executive roles in scholarly publishing at highly respected organizations including Springer-Verlag and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ms. Lange has been recognized by IEEE, Washington & Jefferson College, and honored with TVNewscheck’s 2020 Women in Technology Award for her role in “making a difference in the media industry”.
Stan Moote is CTO of IABM, the international vendors’ association for the digital media and entertainment sector. A highly respected industry veteran, Moote began his television career in 1977 as a plant engineer for CFTO-TV in Toronto, Canada. He was involved in the original SMPTE Digital Video Standards Committee meetings creating CCIR-601 and continues by coordinating activities within the industry for standards groups. Through his domain knowledge working with video and audio, Moote developed several patents and focuses on workflow solutions, new technology, and interoperability. Stan is SMPTE Fellow and recipient of the SMPTE Digital Processing Medal Award. He has also been a tutor at the Leadership Trust, a consultant in lean manufacturing, best practice and Kaizen and Chair of PE backed businesses.
Since Peter took the reins as CEO, IABM membership has more than doubled, and the Association has grown into the only truly international body that champions the interests of the Broadcast and Media technology industry worldwide.
Originally qualified as an accountant, Peter has tapped a vast range of experience in driving the success of IABM. He has enjoyed a long career as CFO, and then CEO, of many complex organizations in a number of sectors including: printing and graphics; direct response and direct marketing; high tech capital equipment manufacturing; and nursery products design, manufacturing and retail.
He has also been a tutor at the Leadership Trust, a consultant in lean manufacturing, best practice and Kaizen and Chair of PE backed businesses.
