INSIGHTS
There are multiple formats for cinema, each with different characteristics, including dynamic range, maximum brightness, and color gamut. How can the we best create content that looks as good as possible on all these projectors? Our experience has been to grade first on an exceptionally high-dynamic-range wide-color-gamut projector, and then map down to the other projectors. This has been an extremely fast, accurate, and pleasing process. Every version looks great, and maintains the intent of the uber master as well as possible. We will describe our techniques and show the results. We believe this could be the future of color grading.
