WFH - Cloud

Cloud-based production in the work from home era
Date:
08 Jul 2020 1:00pm EDT

During this presentation, we will first take a look at traditional remote production workflows and their evolution over time. Some of them could be considered appropriate to help people work from home but the reality is that there are a lot of limitations still in a WFH context. That will bring us to cloud-based workflows that lend themselves very well to distributed environments but also present a number of technical challenges. We will explain how to overcome some of these challenges and as a case study we will show how Blizzard Entertainment managed to deploy a fully distributed production solution following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Faced with accelerating change, broadcasters and media producers are turning to cloud technologies to enable live production workflows that are more agile, flexible, and opex-driven. In this 60-minute session, Kari Grubin, a senior entertainment industry executive, and Claire Southey of AWS will discuss the key technical considerations for architecting live production systems in the cloud. Claire will discuss the state of the technology, survey the benefits that cloud promises to bring to live production and describe architectural patterns for cloud video contribution, live video compute, application deployment, and performance optimization.
