A recent survey from the Rural Broadband Association (NTCA) suggests that high-speed fiber broadband systems are rapidly picking up pace in America’s rural areas as we head into 2022. The organization’s annual Broadband/Internet Availability Survey indicates that approximately 72 percent of customers in rural areas are now subscribing to broadband services, with about 55 percent of them able to receive maximum speeds of greater than or equal to 1G—a major increase from 2020’s 45 percent number. The survey also indicates that that as much as 80 percent or rural customers can now receive maximum speeds of that are at least greater than, or equal to 20Mbps. A recent TV Technology article gives an overview of the survey and states that the rate of rural customers capable of receiving, thanks to new fiber deployments, increased broadband speeds has been steadily rising during the last four years.
