SMPTE End-of-Year Message From Sally-Ann D'Amato

Written by Sally-Ann D'Amato | Dec 28, 2025 1:22:27 AM

As we approach the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on all we have accomplished as a Society and to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. In a world that often feels uncertain and fast-moving, your commitment to our mission has been a steady source of inspiration.

This year brought challenges. Some we couldn’t predict, but others were prevalent across the industry. No matter the challenges, SMPTE members showcased profound resilience, creating a stronger Society. Whether you participated in the Standards process, volunteered your time at a SMPTE event, submitted your work to the Motion Imaging Journal, made a new member feel welcomed, took a SMPTE course, or offered financial support, you played a meaningful role in SMPTE. Each action, large or small, helps us extend our reach and deepen our impact.

I am proud of the progress we have made: strengthening partnerships with corporate and individual members, creating new Standards Study Group focusing on Content Provenance and Authenticity, increasing attendance at the Media Technology Summit in a time when similar events had a decrease in attendance, and receiving recognition for the work of our Standards Community with TWO Emmys®. These achievements are not the result of any one individual, but of a collective effort powered by people who believe change is possible when we come together. You remind us that compassion and collaboration remain some of the most powerful forces for good.

As we look ahead to the coming year, we do so with renewed energy and optimism. We have ambitious goals for the months ahead. Goals that will allow us to serve more people, advocate more boldly, and innovate in ways that respond to the changing needs of our community. I am confident we will meet these aspirations because we have a membership that shows up for the Society and for each other.

During this season of reflection, I hope you take time to rest, recharge, and celebrate the moments of light that carried you through the year. Please know that your generosity, dedication, and belief in our mission truly make a difference. We are honored to have you as part of this community.

On behalf of our entire team, thank you for standing with us. Thank you for lending your voice, your resources, your time, and your heart. And thank you for continuing to champion a future for this industry.

We wish you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday season and a bright start to the new year. I look forward to all we will achieve together in 2026.
