Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:

It was a big few weeks for SMPTE, especially down south in Atlanta, Georgia. The week kicked off with SMPTE Atlanta’s February meeting at Rich Hart Global Studios! The meeting began with a tour of all their state-of-the-art spaces, perfect for recording podcasts and editing film. After the tour, section members got to hear from SMPTE’s Executive Director, David Grindle, and President, Renard T. Jenkins. Jenkin’s discussed the dangers and potential of AI, while Grindle detailed new membership benefits available this year. It was truly an eventful meeting!

The next day marked the beginning of the inaugural Power of Color Symposium, a two-day event all about color science, representation, and new the technologies supporting the two. Held at Clark Atlanta University, the symposium was attended by some of the industry’s best current and future minds. Students from CAU, Morehouse, and Spelman flooded the auditorium, seeking to network and gain industry knowledge. The Power of Color was a success because of these students, and we’re thrilled they got so much out of the event. A full wrap-up of the symposium is soon to come, so be on the lookout!

Up north, SMPTE New York held its annual winter party! The evening was full of fun and excitement, as members and guests drank and dined while catching up with old friends, networked with colleagues, and wooing their biggest customers. SMPTE New York knows how to party!

SMPTE UK held an exciting event this week dealing with the gaming industry! Part of the “Industries of the Future” season, the event was held at TechUK, one of the UK’s leaders in the tech sector. The meeting detailed advancements in the gaming industry, including virtual reality, AI advancements, and even the incorporation of blockchain technology. There was a lot to discuss, so the SMPTE UK section was lucky it was a multiplayer game!

The SMPTE Job Board is back and the Sum-Up will be listing the opportunities that are found there! The current jobs listed include a Solution Account Manager in Media and Entertainment at Belden, Senior Director of Engineering at Nebraska Public Media, and Business Development Manager of Media Infrastructure at Lawo Inc.
