Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:
The 2025 HPA Tech Retreat was this week, and SMPTE showed up in a big way. SMPTE President Richard Welsh held a session on the potential benefits and dangers of artificial intelligence, and Executive Director Sally-Ann D’Amato led a panel discussion featuring SMPTE Past President Renard Jenkins and General Intelligence’s Andy Maltz in a conversation on the importance of Standards organizations. SMPTE also had a booth in the Innovation Zone, so attendees could talk directly to staff and see everything the society was up to.
The Saudi Media Forum was also held this week, and SMPTE members were present to share insights on media technology and solutions to boost media infrastructures, specifically in the color science space. Several nations gathered to discuss virtual reality, artificial intelligence, IP networks, and many other topics.
SMPTE San Francisco held an event called Moving Volumetrically: Building a Career in Collaborative Arts, Tech, and Motion Pictures. The event, presented by Paul Galando of Holodeck LED, was all about how embracing and integrating diverse passions can lead to fulfilling careers in the ever-evolving world of film, television, AI, and immersive media.
SMPTE would like to welcome our returning corporate members, Warner Bros Discovery, SiriusXM Radio, Inc., Cisco Systems, Disguise, and Qvest US!
