Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

SMPTE Toronto held an event called, “Re‑Engineering Broadcast: A Software‑Focused Strategy Using Observability, Cloud, and Modern Development!” The presentation covered Rogers Sports and Media’s journey building a new technology department starting with a single developer, and ending with robust, purpose-built applications that power daily operations across Rogers Sports and Media’ channels.

SMPTE Sacramento held an event on Automated Restoration and Transformation of Video. Hosted by Dominic Jackson, VP of Products and Services at Cinnafilm, this meeting was held both virtually and in person. Jackson is a product management professional with over ten years of success in developing and managing technologies for content production and distribution in the Media and Entertainment space.

SMPTE New England held a meeting on secure video streaming over the internet. This presentation reviewed a little bit about TCP vs UDP (Transmission Control Protocol vs User Datagram Protocol), UDP as the choice for Video Streaming, and RTP (Real-Time Protocol).

The 2026 Media Technology Summit Call for Papers is here! Those wishing to participate in MTS2026 can submit one of two ways: The regular conference track requires a 300-400 abstract of a scientific paper, as well as an 800-1000 word outline of said paper. The journal track is for those with full, publish-ready manuscripts between 3,000 and 5,000 words. More details and submissions links for the MTS 2026 Call for Papers can be found here.
