Thank You! SMPTE 2020: ‘Game On’ Redefined the Tech Conference Experience

Written by Barbara Lange | Nov 17, 2020 5:04:17 PM

Although travel limitations and the need for social distancing made it impossible to come together for an in-person conference, this year’s technical conference took advantage of the latest in interactive experience platforms to create the most global and accessible SMPTE program yet.

To ensure that attendees get the most out of the SMPTE 2020 experience, we are providing access to on-demand sessions through Dec. 12!

We built it and you came! Thank you for making SMPTE 2020: “Game On” an amazing success!

We had three wonderful days of training, technical presentations and panels, keynotes, and even an esports competition. Attendees and contributors from around the world were fully engaged in the sessions and social events.

SMPTE 2020: “Game On” was an event like no other. SMPTE 2020 Program Committee Co-chairs Kylee Peña and Chris Witmayer made this year’s conference remarkable. A huge “thank you” goes out to them, and to all of the speakers, roundtable moderators, panel participants, keynotes, and training leaders who chose SMPTE 2020 as their forum for sharing cutting-edge research, insights, and technology.

Here’s a little recap of SMPTE 2020:

The in-depth technical paper presentations given were as valuable as ever, having been subjected to an even more rigorous peer-review and selection process than has been applied in past years.

A thoughtfully constructed program schedule incorporated elements, such as the new Core Concepts sessions, that made it easy for newer member of the industry to jump into technical topics.

Roundtables organized by theme offered unique opportunities for small group discussions.

Partner content from 8K Association, AES, AIMS, HPA Women in Post, IDEA, and RIST Forum expanded the rich slate of programming.

A new APAC-focused program element provided presentations showcasing the experts and innovation taking place in the region’s broadcast and vendor communities.

With input from engineers, creatives, gamers, and others, a full day of Esports gave many participants a window into a quickly growing aspect of the media and entertainment industry.

Finally, I’d like to thank the sponsors who helped make this first-of-a-kind event possible and successful. Thank you to the 8K Association, AIMS, ATSC, AWS, Constellation Charitable Foundation, IDEA, Key Code Media, National TeleConsultants (NTC), Ownzones Entertainment Technologies, RIST, and Signiant.

We are so proud to have the support of participants, partners, and sponsors, who allowed us to take the challenges we’re facing today and turned them into an opportunity to do even better in serving SMPTE members and the industry worldwide. After we take a break to catch our breath, we’ll be looking ahead to 2021 and how we can continue this important work through our virtual events and educational offerings.

I hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Barbara
