As you may know, we are excited to be launching a new program called SMPTE Club.  The SMPTE Club is an informal virtual roundtable concept that brings people together based on a topic.  You can think of it like a book club.  Pick a book/topic and have a discussion while you network with your colleagues.

Hans Hoffmann will be hosting a SMPTE Club to talk about his vision for SMPTE during his tenure.  Go to our Club page to see all the clubs and register to attend, or request to form one(!), at https://www.smpte.org/clubhouse

I decided to host a club on women in technology with the specific goal of increasing the number of women in media technology.  I’m not looking to complain about being the few women in a male-dominated field, rather I’d like to help see marked change.  What can we do to really move the needle?  Think working with high school teachers and students to tell them about the career options.  Work with our student chapters to better engage in helping them to find experts and jobs?  There are many actions that SMPTE can take to make a real difference.  Will you join me?

The SMPTE She/Her Club’s inaugural meet-up is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30, at 14.00 ET.  It’s a simple a zoom meeting where everyone can have a voice, and a webcam.  I’ll have a short topics list, but then it’s just a discussion that hopefully drives to some actions.  And then we’ll see where we end up!  And if you have specific topics of interest, please share in advance.

Bring a cup of coffee and let’s talk!

Hope to see you there,

Barbara

PS:  While the topic of this Club is focused on changing the equation of women in media tech, we are inclusive to anyone who wants to participate.  So, yes, men are welcome, too.  So pass it on!
