Today, I am delighted to share with you a reimagined SMPTE. As you see here on our redesigned website, SMPTE now showcases a bold new logo that better defines who the Society is today. It incorporates a stylized camera iris design combined with our iconic color bars, calling back to our origin as an engineering Society focused on motion imaging technology. We believe this representation of a new and revitalized SMPTE captures our rich heritage while focusing on a future filled with many enhancements in the way we serve our members.
SMPTE's progress over the past 104 years has been driven by the best and brightest in the motion picture, television and professional media industry. Our more than 6,000 members — motion-imaging executives, engineers, creative and technology professionals, researchers, scientists, educators and students — stay at the forefront of the field by constantly evolving along with the technology. And SMPTE has been evolving as well, to better deliver the tools, expertise, education and access that are vital to your success.
We are reimagining how we serve our members, with expanded benefits and free educational offerings, to enhanced availability of information and programs that foster connections with SMPTE's rich network of colleagues and mentors. We're developing plans to promote greater diversity, equity and inclusion within the Society and the industry as a whole, to amplify the talents of a broader spectrum of media technology professionals of every nationality, race, gender and stage in their careers.
We're thinking more broadly about our members so we can continue to fulfill the needs of our core group of Traditional Engineers as well as the needs of a burgeoning group of Creative Technologists. So that members in more regions of the world have access to all of SMPTE's benefits. Because whether seasoned industry professionals or those just beginning their careers, all SMPTE members share a need to stay ahead of evolving trends in technology with timely information, relevant content, quality education and mentoring opportunities.
This year we've also evolved to a truly remote experience for the SMPTE 2020 Annual Technical Conference: "Game On," which promises to be the perfect venue for this e-sports themed event. We're delighted that, for the first time, the entire global SMPTE community will be able to attend and participate in SMPTE's signature event.
This evolution, a complete reimagination of what SMPTE can be, is just the beginning of our efforts to solidify our position as the global home of media professionals, technologists and engineers in the motion imaging industry.
