How Simply Voting Works

To vote, visit https://smpte.simplyvoting.com/ and enter your SMPTE Member Number and Voter Password. Your password is randomly generated by Simply Voting and will be emailed to you when the elections open. You will also receive a unique direct voting link that will automatically log you in and bring you to your available ballots.

If your login was successful, you will be shown a menu listing all current ballots in which you are eligible to vote. If you have not yet voted, you may click on the ballot name and an electronic ballot will appear. If you are not part of a Section or if your Section's ballot is not yet open, you will not see any available ballots.

Once you submit a ballot, the results are encrypted and stored in a database. Your SMPTE Member Number is then flagged as "voted" and will not be eligible to vote on this ballot again.

Privacy and Security

Simply Voting was designed from the ground-up to minimize the risk of electoral fraud. Voters who bypass authentication or have already voted are denied access to the ballot, and ballots are checked for validity before being accepted. Nobody could ever find out what a particular voter has voted as the results are stored anonymously.

Communication between your computer and our website is encrypted with TLS 1.2. Our servers are "hardened" and are routinely subjected to PCI Compliance security scans. Our application code adheres to guidelines set out by the Open Web Application Security Project.

Raymond Yeung
Head of Content Standards
Amazon MGM Studios

Serving as SMPTE Standards Vice President in 2025, I was constantly reminded of the Standards Community’s contribution to the harmonization and interoperability in the media industry. Continuing in this role, I will strive for agility, transparency, and efficiency in our work, which is a web-first development process. The Public Committee Draft established by my predecessors is a great pathway to interact with the public. I have always enjoyed engaging in a very vibrant SMPTE community. I believe that we are well on the way to take part in the latest developments in artificial intelligence, content provenance and authenticity, and media supply chain in the cloud. I am also mindful that SMPTE is the gatekeeper of foundational engineering documents in broadcast and cinema such as the MXF file format, the IP signal transport suite SMPTE ST 2110, and the Digital Cinema suite. This list goes on with my personal favorites of HDR imaging and IMF media packaging series, but the whole array of SMPTE offerings provides amazingly wide and deep coverage tracing back to negative and print films which are still being manufactured. I received my doctorate in particle physics from UCLA in 1987, followed with experience in early high-performance computing at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I started my career in film VFX with the Eastman-Kodak digital film center Cinesite in 1992, specializing in digital-film image science and compositing. The digital color mastering of movies was the natural next step in the late 1990’s. I had the opportunity to work on many notable projects including ‘Pleasantville’ (1998) and ‘Seabiscuit’ (2003). My work in digital intermediates began at Technicolor in 2001 and continued at EFilm until 2008. The rise of streaming media led me to Fox Media Services where I was exposed to the initial design of the IMF framework. When I joined the Dolby Laboratories in 2012, tasked with the development of HDR dynamic colortransform metadata carriage, my SMPTE standards work began with mastering display color volume metadata and IMF. My current role as the Head of Content Standards at Amazon MGM Studios delves into the preservation of creative intent and the very demanding field of live sports. The standards-based philosophy brings into full circle the harmonization and interoperability principle that SMPTE embodies.

I have spent over 30 years in the broadcast industry, beginning as a software developer and progressing to my current role as CTO at Ross Video. My career has always been deeply connected to SMPTE’s mission, with over a decade of participation in technical engineering meetings focused on the “Television” in SMPTE. I’ve implemented many SMPTE standards to create broadcast products, and I’ve seen firsthand how they enable innovation and interoperability. Working alongside some of the best engineers in the field, I have been fortunate to share in two technical Emmy Awards. Together with Jeff Moore, I helped create the Ottawa SMPTE Sub-Chapter, where I remain active. I have served as a Canadian Governor and as Governor-at-Large, gaining insight into the Society’s global challenges and opportunities. While my professional background is not in accounting, and I am not a CFO, I have spent more than 15 years developing and managing budgets at Ross Video. My goals in this role are to help ensure SMPTE’s finances are clearly understood, responsibly managed, and positioned for future stability. A strong financial foundation is essential for any lasting organization, and I will work collaboratively with the Board and members to ensure the Society can continue to grow, innovate, and serve our industry for generations to come

My 40 years in media and entertainment. Started at the BBC as a sound technician. Then to Australia in 1995, as a Promo Producer, at Fairfax building online short form video. At FOXTEL I was GM of interactive TV, collaborating with the engineering team to deliver 'red button' services. At Cognizant I led large solution and delivery technology teams. For the last 9 years I have led my own business and leadership consulting operation. I am a collaboration, strategic and leadership specialist. I am passionate about the central position SMPTE can play for both members and the industry as a whole. SMPTE is the vital link that supports the industry in driving the creativity to deliver emotional storytelling. As Chair of SMPTE OCEANIA I combined my career experience, leadership, and strategic capability to reinvent ourselves into a more relevant and diverse section, who have membership, community, education, career development and next generation professionals all in focus in what we do. The shift to personalised, mobile, interactive and Al impacted content is daunting. A 100+ old SMPTE can survive and flourish by practical adaption and evolution. My OCEANIA experience matched with career expertise brings fresh insights to apply in APAC and globally. I would wish to see how the APAC region can broaden our appeal and membership growth, building on my OCEANIA experience. At global level I would like to see where I can apply myself to make the most powerful and long term strategic and operational positive impact for SMPTE.

When I started to write my Diploma Thesis at the IRT (Institut für Rundfunktechnik) in Munich in 2005 I never imagined that I would stay there for more than 15 years to contribute to the media industry as an R&D engineer. But I have met so many enthusiastic and supporting colleagues there. Later I have represented the IRT at various groups of the EBU (European Broadcasting Unid and finally also at SMPTE. I have joined and chaired several EBU groups, presented the IRT on various conferences, trade shows and finally I had the chance to speak also at the SMPTE Annual Technical Conferences in 2018 and 2020. When the decision has been made to close the IRT I took the opportunity to change the view from the broadcaster and R&D perspective to the manufacturer side and I've joined Rohde & Schwarz in May 2021. Since December 2024 I am working for Appear AS (Oslo, Norway) as Senior Solutions Engineer. In the past years I've been working with so many different people which helped me to understand workflows, mindsets and perspectives. I would like to motivate young people to join and help the Society, share and bring together knowledge and all the different prospects. I've worked a lot with young students and also experienced colleagues and this collaboration of different views is my motivation - leaning from each other without any prejudice.

I am a SMPTE member located in the Pacific Northwest, a region of the United States that feels disconnected from the majority of the SMPTE community. While I always look forward to connecting with colleagues at annual events like MTS, I deeply wish I had more local opportunities like I did in my SMPTE Student Chapter at RIT. One of my favorite parts of being a SMPTE member is learning from others in the industry, being exposed to new and interesting ways media is developing, and fostering connections that support me throughout my career. Being at the center of a technology-driven city like Seattle, I know that there are members of our community who we can bring together, and young students in our universities that we can inspire to pursue a career in media technology, just as I was 10 years ago. All it takes is that one conversation or that one presentation to change the trajectory of someone's life, and I want to help bring those opportunities to our region. Bringing people together and creating spaces for conversations is one of my biggest strengths. My personal philosophy is to learn from others about what matters most to them, what motivates them, and find the path forward that best serves those who are around me. I would be honored to have the opportunity to create that environment for members in our region, and I hope we can work together to build a shared vision of our SMPTE community.
