Florian Schleich |Standards Vice President for a Two-Year Term, 1 January 2022 – 31 December 2023

Production Technology Partnerships & Standards - Netflix

I have been a consumer and implementer of SMPTE Standards for the past 15+ years and have been actively contributing to the Standards Community since 2013. I started my professional career at Fraunhofer IIS in Germany, where I developed software to process Digital Cinema Packages and supported European film archives in their efforts to adopt digital preservation workflows. I later moved to Los Angeles, CA to interface with local studios and production/post companies to better understand their needs and to position Fraunhofer’s light field production tools and IMF packaging solutions. I accepted an offer from Netflix in 2018, where I currently manage production technology partnerships and Standards engagements with the goal to democratize innovative and interoperable production/post workflows.

At SMPTE, I have served as document editor and chair of drafting groups in the past. Currently, I am Co-Chair of Technology Committee 35PM, where I pioneered the use of Public Committee Drafts to make the Standards development process more accessible and agile. I’m now deeply humbled and honored to be considered for the role of Standards Vice President. If elected, I would like to focus on the following: streamlining access to SMPTE engineering documents; striving for stronger collaboration with industry organizations that are keen to publish specifications; and ensuring that processes are not in the way of solving today’s critical problems. I have Dipl.-Inf. (FH) and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science. In my free time, I’m an avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast. You’ll often find me camping in the mountains with my wife and our two sons.
