Brian Gaffney is a seasoned media technology executive with more than three decades of experience driving innovation across film, television, broadcast, and digital content production. As Vice President of the Software Product Division at MTI Film, he leads the development and commercialization of industry-leading post-production tools including emmy award winning DRS™Nova, and CORTEX, and MTai—solutions that empower content creators with powerful workflows for restoration, mastering, and MTai artificial intelligence-enhanced post-production solutions.

Brian’s deep understanding of the evolving media landscape is rooted in his diverse background, which spans engineering, sales, and product strategy roles at top-tier companies such as Autodesk, Creative Bridge/Technicolor, Unity Technologies, TurboSquid and CODEX and X2X Media. At Unity Technologies, he focused on advancing real-time rendering pipelines and virtual production tools, supporting studios in bridging the gap between linear storytelling and interactive content creation.

An advocate for the creative community, Brian also serves as the Digital Director at the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, where he champions the integration of technology and the arts. His collaborative leadership style and technical acumen have earned him a reputation as a trusted liaison between engineers and artists, helping organizations navigate digital transformation while preserving artistic integrity.

In addition to his role with SMPTE, Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the Visual Effects Society and is an active member of the Television Academy Sci-Tech Peer Group. His commitment to standards, education, and innovation continues to shape the future of media production, distribution, and archiving.

Brian holds a degree in Laser Optics and Physics from Vincennes University and remains a passionate advocate for mentoring the next generation of media professionals. He brings a visionary perspective and practical insight to SMPTE’s mission of advancing the art, science, and craft of the moving image.
