Catherine Meininger

Catherine Meininger | USA-Western Region Governor

Catherine Meininger is the Vice President of Engineering at Portrait Displays, a company that provides color display solutions for global device manufacturers, content creators, and content distributors. Though her main interests originated in audio and video post-production, Ms. Meininger developed a passion for the perceptual side of the industry and focused her research on color science and psychophysics. At Portrait Displays, she is the principal designer and developer of the Aurora Color Engine within the Calman color calibration software. She now leads a team responsible for investigating display calibration methodologies and orchestrates research and development efforts across multiple departments and product lines. She coordinates with key stakeholders across the company to guide product and business decisions that are supported by thorough scientific evaluation and industry research.

In 2018, Ms. Meininger received her bachelor’s degree in Motion Picture Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). She was an active member of RIT’s SMPTE Student Chapter and served as president of the organization her senior year. She is a recipient of the SMPTE Louis F. Wolf Jr. Memorial Scholarship (2017) and received an Honorable Mention in the Student Award competition for her senior thesis on chromatic noise perception (2018). In her professional career, she has presented numerous times at the SMPTE Media Technology Summit and other SMPTE events. She has multiple publications in the Motion Imaging Journal and currently serves on the Board of Editors. She also served as one of the leads of the SMPTE RIS-OSVP Color Management working group.
