Understanding the environmental impact of Media in the Cloud: A Discussion Paper

Add a heading-Jan-05-2023-02-04-41-7460-PM

“Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs .”

This is how the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability in 1987. Thirty-five years later, sustainable efforts all around the world still strive towards this goal.

The term sustainability is widely used to cover all manner of activities aimed at improving the longevity of something while protecting planetary resources, societal wellbeing, and economic growth.

In 2015, the United Nations Members States collectively adopted a ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ which provided a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.2 Within this blueprint are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are a series of ambitious objectives and targets to end extreme poverty and hunger, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change, by 2030.

These Sustainable Development Goals offer anyone new to sustainability visibility as to the breadth and depth of the topic.
