                                                                                                How HDR was used on Solo: A Star Wars Story

Join J. Schulte, Senior Image and Process Engineer at Industrial Light & Magic, for an exciting look at how the latest HDR Imaging and Display technology was used during the VFX and Post on Solo: A Star Wars Story. We’ll take a look at how the choice of cameras, color management approach and overall workflow design allowed for a seamless transition through the various stages of the VFX process to deliver the underlying HDR Data to the Cinema Screens and HDR in the home in the best possible way.

About the Speaker:

Based in San Francisco, J is ILM’s Senior Image and Process Engineer tasked with architecting the ever involving Imaging Pipeline and subsequent workflows used on the numerous ILM and Lucasfilm Productions.

In his current role he has been instrumental in pioneering the advancement and use of HDR on Set, in Visual Effects, Mastering, Distribution and Exhibition.

Back in 2015, J was part of the core Imaging Science team that helped realize the first Theatrical Dolby Cinema HDR release for Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland and more recently helped supervise the Color Science and Finishing Pipelines for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
