PRESENTER:   DAVID E. ACKER, SMPTE FELLOW

ABSTRACT OF THE PRESENTATION:

SMPTE is an internationally recognized standards organization that provides a vital technical framework to the industry.  Its more than 800 standards and related documents are currently embraced by engineering communities internationally.

Such standards influence nearly every piece of motion-imaging content seen and heard by billions of viewers worldwide.

This presentation will include a discussion of:

  • The structure of the SMPTE Standards Organization
  • The Technology Committees, their scope of work, topics, and standards
  • Standards committee meetings and updates of their work

Presenter’s Biography: David E. Acker 
David Acker is considered a development pioneer in the field of digital TV signal processing by many engineering professionals in the industry. He has developed several advanced Time Base Correctors, Frame Synchronizers, Noise Reducers, Image Enhancers, and Color Correction products for a number of companies including FOR.A Co Ltd, Broadcast Pix, Media 100 and Microtime Inc.

He graduated from RPI with a BSEE and a MSEE from MIT. David holds several patents, in the fields of Digital Television Signal Processing and Live Video Production Systems.

David was elected a SMPTE Fellow in 1992, and has presented numerous papers on TBCs and Synchronizers, digital signal processing, and color correction at SMPTE Annual Technical Conferences. He was very active in working on several SMPTE Standards Committees that generated numerous Digital Television standards for the industry.
