Hugo Gaggioni will give a presentation describing new products, workflows and technologies unveiled by Sony Corp. for use in live applications for media production. In particular, details will be given of a hybrid operational workflow for simultaneous cloud and on-premise operations, with real-time performance specifications, for remote and distributed production. Also, a new Ultra-Low Latency, ASIC-based, compression architecture will be presented which is adopted in upcoming Sony devices for use in transport of multiple HD or UHD signals over WAN and 5G networks. Comments will also be given on technologies for: a continuously variable ND filter for studio cameras, a new 8K cinema camera, new CLED panels for ICVXF and VP, and a recently introduced 4000 nits monitor for critical color grading, HDR and viewing applications.

PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY:

Hugo Gaggioni who joined Sony in 1988, holds several patents and has authored more than 40 technical publications in the areas of video compression, digital filter banks, HDTV and UHDTV devices and systems. Previously to joining Sony, he worked at RCA Corp and Bell Communications Research. He was a member of the Advanced Television Advisory group to the FCC (1987 to 1994). He is a Fellow of SMPTE and the recipient of the 2004 Leitch Gold Medal award and the 2018 David Sarnoff Medal Award. In 2008, he received the U.S. Broadcasting and Cable Technology Leadership Award In 2019 he received the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award. In 2021 he became a member of the Hall of Fame of the Sports Video Group. Hugo Gaggioni holds degrees in Telecommunications, Systems Engineering, and Electronic Engineering from the University of Essex in Colchester, England, University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University, respectively.
