SMPTE Advisory Note for ST 2110-41:2024

(Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks: Fast Metadata Framework)

Please be advised that in the published version of ST 2110-41:2023 has two issues that were submitted to the Technology Committee and summarized here:

  1. An error in Annex A. The current text says:

The number of Segment Contents words within each Data Item Package shall be determined by subtracting 2 from the Data Item Length field.

                           The sentence SHOULD HAVE said:

The number of Segment Contents words within each Data Item Package shall be determined by subtracting 1 from the Data Item Length field.

  1. The following requirement in Annex A is problematic:

"Each Data Item Package shall contain a 32-bit Segment Data Offset and one Segment
of the length indicated by the Segment Data Offset."
… there are issues with this requirement and the requirements of §5.4

These substantive errors are being fixed in the Drafting Group and this Advisory Note warns implementers on the nature of the fixes.

  1. In appendix A of 2110-41, the erroneous sentence says:

The number of Segment Contents words within each Data Item Package shall be determined by subtracting 2 from the Data Item Length field.

              The sentence should instead read:

The number of Segment Contents words within each Data Item Package shall be determined by subtracting 1 from the Data Item Length field.

  1. In the same appendix , in defining the Segment Data Package. The erroneous sentence reads:

Each Data Item Package shall contain a 32 bit Segment Data Offset and one Segment of the length indicated by the Segment Data Offset.

The Sentence should instead read:

The payload of each Data Item Package shall contain a 32-bit Segment Data Offset followed by one or more 32-bit Segment Contents words.

Implementers should be aware of these two corrections.
