Broadcast is moving from purpose-built appliances toward software-defined infrastructure, changing not only where media processing runs but how systems are integrated, deployed, controlled, and operated. This webinar will examine the practical implications of that shift across on-premises, cloud, hybrid, virtualized, and containerized environments. At the center are today’s emerging approaches: API-driven control, the Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) architecture, and the Media eXchange Layer (MXL). We’ll consider what these approaches can deliver, where implementation and operational challenges remain, and how broadcasters can retain reliability, security, and predictable performance. A 40-year arc of the EEG/Ai-Media story, from early analog captioning appliances to Linux-based platforms, virtualized software, and today’s containerized workflows will provide one lens on the broader trend. Drawing on experience building both cloud-native services and new broadcast hardware, the session will also examine where dedicated platforms still make sense—and why the future is likely to be hybrid rather than purely software or hardware.
