Marc Zorn | USA - Hollywood Region, 2025-2026

Marc Zorn is a career cybersecurity and media production technologist.  He has experience across most IT and security domains as well as the technologies involved in the secure handling of production, color and image encoding, visual effects, virtual production, post-production, and digital cinema content.

Marc’s production experience includes digital cinematography, dailies, VFX, color science, editorial, final conform, metadata, localization and versioning, Digital Cinema Packaging, and secure content delivery. Marc is also one of the original authors of the MPAA Security Best Practices, setting many security standards for the industry.

His cybersecurity background includes enterprise network design, firewalls, IPS/IDS, forensics, web technologies, many operating systems (and versions), networking protocols, and enterprise-wide design and deployment of directory services.

Marc is a long-time member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and recently concluded a second term as Chair of the Hollywood Section.  He is author of technical papers and articles in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, and is a frequent speaker at the SMPTE Media Technology Summit and related events.  As a long serving member of the executive committee for the annual SMPTE Media Technology Summit, Marc served as the Co-Chair of the 2024 conference held in Hollywood, and is current Chair of the 2025 MTS conference in Pasadena in October.

Marc was inducted into the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) as an Associate through his work with film and TV productions, industry organizations, and direct support of the ASC.   Has served on ASC technical committees, is resident production security and technology expert, and an adjunct educator.

For the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), Marc served as the Chair of the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) Logo Program Task Force, after participation with various ACES working groups, bridging the gaps between camera manufacturers, production companies, studios, and post-production groups.

Marc has been deeply involved with other industry working groups such as Hollywood Professionals Association, Society of Television Engineers, Content Delivery Security Alliance, Cloud Security Association, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Marc studied at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinema and later Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.  He is a frequent contributor to the USC Entertainment Technology Center which guides students to become movie makers by steeping them in the latest production technologies.

Marc is also a contributor and guest lecturer at various California schools including Chapman College, USC Viterbi School of Engineering, USC Annenberg School of Communications, Cal State Northridge, and the American Film Institute.

Marc holds many professional certifications including CISSP, CISA, GIAC, PMP, CCIE, THX Technician Level I & II, and THX Large Venue Calibration.  He is also a pilot with FAA ASEL/IA, FAA Ground Instructor, and FAA Pt. 107 (Commercial Drone Pilot) certificates
